How Michael Got a $3,000 Heat Pump Rebate (When He Didn't Technically Qualify)

Michael is 89 and lives on a fixed income. When his old heat pump finally gave out, he was looking at the cost of replacing an entire heating and cooling system, and that's not a small number for anyone, let alone someone watching every dollar.

Before he called us, he read through our Google reviews. That's how a lot of our customers in Portland and Gresham find us these days, and it's part of why we take reviews seriously. Based on what he read, Michael decided Ed's Heating & Air was who he wanted working on his home.

Once we got out to his place and heard his situation, it was clear this wasn't going to be a typical install. He needed a heat pump that would actually hold up, but we also weren't going to hand him a quote that left him in a worse financial spot than he started in.

We're a registered contractor with the Energy Trust of Oregon program, so we already knew the rebates and incentives available for heat pump upgrades. The problem was that Michael's situation didn't quite fit the program's standard requirements.

Instead of telling him he didn't qualify and leaving it there, we called Energy Trust of Oregon directly, explained his circumstances, and asked for an exception. They approved it. We secured a $3,000 heat pump rebate for his installation, and rather than making him wait on a reimbursement check, we applied the full amount straight to his invoice.

We installed a Midea EVOX G3 heat pump, a solid, efficient upgrade from what he had before. Since a heat pump handles both heating and cooling, Michael now has one system keeping his place warm through Oregon's winters and cool through the summer, without the bill he was dreading.

After the install, Michael called a few times just to say thank you. Nothing was wrong, he just wanted us to know he appreciated it. Those calls are a big part of why we do this work.

We can't promise every job qualifies for a rebate like this one. But we can promise we'll actually look for ways to make a repair or replacement affordable before we hand you a number, and ask the extra questions that might save you money, the way we did for Michael.

If you're a homeowner in Portland, Gresham, or the surrounding areas and need a new furnace, A/C, or heat pump, don't assume it's out of reach. There may be rebates or financing options you don't know about yet. Reach out and we'll walk through what's actually available for your home and your budget.
